Why does Ložionica have a specific semicircular shape? Which scientist, according to legend, designed the Water Tower? How many times was the Water Tower demolished and why? What is the connection between the legendary steam locomotive “Flying Belgrade” and the technical development of Serbia?

These and many other questions are answered by the exhibition Ložionica: In operation since 1925, which opened in the Terminal exhibition space, within the newly opened center of creative industries and innovations – Ložionica, in Belgrade.

The boiler room, one of the most important buildings of Belgrade’s industrial heritage, was built between 1925 and 1926 as part of the complex of the former Main Railway Station. The semi-circular hall with 31 tracks was the heart of the maintenance and servicing of steam locomotives – technological marvels of their time. It was built according to the project of engineer Nikola Raičković, with a specific architectural solution that enabled efficient and organized work.

Exactly one hundred years after its creation, Ložionica was reconstructed and completely transformed – today it is the first center of creative industries and innovations in Serbia, a place where ideas and innovations circulate instead of trains.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Museum of Serbian Railways and Ložionica, and through rich archival materials, photographs, drawings and authentic objects, it guides visitors through the history, but also the present and the future of this unique space.

Visitors to the permanent exhibition space of the Ložionice – Terminal will be able to explore the rich technical and cultural past of the Ložionice and find out numerous interesting facts from the rich history of this building.

The exhibition is open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and admission is free.
